HOW DO WE WORK
We are Puerto Rico’s grocery cupboard;
the largest food distribution center on the Island.
Our mission is to mitigate hunger in Puerto Rico.
We are a non-profit organization that collects food at our facilities in Carolina for distribution throughout the Island using community organizations and churches.
About us
We dream of healthier generations.
Banco de Alimentos de Puerto Rico was founded in 1988 to alleviate hunger and improve nutrition of disadvantaged Puerto Ricans. To that end, we made alliances with the food industry, public agencies, and private organizations and developed a food collection and distribution center that works both permanently and during emergencies.
Our relationship with national and international non-profit organizations has allowed us to grow steadily for more than 30 years. Among them, partnerships with United Way of Puerto Rico, FEMA, and our honorary membership to the Chamber of Marketing, Industry and Food Distribution (MIDA).

In 1996 we joined Feeding America, the largest food bank network in the United States, and the umbrella for 200 foodbanks like ours.

We support more than 165 non-profit institutions and churches that carry our aid to the 78 municipalities of Puerto Rico, including Vieques and Culebra.
Since 2002 we have seen the expansion of a solid network of collaborators, including producers, manufacturers, food distributors, companies of the widest range and individuals that make up an unmatched network.

In January 2020 we moved to new spacious and modern facilities in Carolina. Today we are Puerto Rico’s greatest grocery cupboard.

Our
impact
We leave smiles in our path!
After Hurricanes Irma and Maria, in 2018 we distributed 18.2 million pounds of food impacting almost 2 million people.

In 2019 and again in 2020 we distributed 13.4 million pounds of food - approximately 10 million meals - to more than 1.1 million people in the 78 municipalities.
